The Difference Between Wanting & Getting

There’s an old saying:

“Your thoughts determine what you want, but your actions determine what you get.”

So I went to this event last year where one of the speakers reached into his pocket and took out a $20 bill.

He says, “Who wants this $20 bill?” Everybody raises their hand.

Then he says, “Who really wants the $20 bill?,” and everybody raises their hand a little higher.

Then I say, “Who really, really wants it?” People put their hand up a little higher.

Sometimes it will take a minute or two minutes. The record is 4 minutes and 40 seconds. Finally, somebody meekly gets out of their chair and comes up on stage and says, “Can I have the money?”

But the speaker ignored them. So, they reached up and they took it.

“Exactly!” the speaker says. “Your thoughts determine what you want. Your actions determine what you get. All 125 of you wanted the bill. Only 1 of you actually took action to get the bill.”

So many great lessons to pull from that.

One of which is that your business isn’t going to climb the ranks in Google or start following up with your lead lists by itself! Someone has to push the buttons and make it happen.
